Use Promo Planner when a merchant wants help deciding what to discount, how deep, and for which event, based on the store’s own sales history. It also answers questions about sales, customers, stock, and past promotions. Promo Planner is a planning and analysis tool. It does not create a live discount by itself. The merchant reviews the planned discount in the AIOD discount editor and saves it there.

Entry point

In Shopify admin, open Apps > AIOD Discount & Gift > Promo Planner. The page title is Promo planner. The subtitle says: “Ask about your sales, customers, stock or a promotion. The AI investigates your Shopify data and answers with evidence.”

Data Promo Planner reads

Promo Planner reads the store’s data live from Shopify each time the merchant asks a question:
  • Shopify Analytics sales history, such as weekly sales per product, store daily totals, discounts, and recorded cost of goods sold.
  • The product catalog, shop currency, and country from Shopify admin.
AIOD needs access to Shopify Analytics for this. If the app does not have it yet, Promo Planner answers: “I need access to Shopify Analytics to read your sales history. Reopen the app from your Shopify admin to approve it, then try again.” Other messages the merchant can see:

Start a conversation

Before the first question, the page shows a card titled What do you want to know? It says Promo Planner digs into Shopify Analytics (sales by category, channel and customer, trends, traffic and conversion, what sells together, stock, margins, and past promotions) and builds a promotion with projected results when the merchant wants one. The card shows suggested questions as buttons. AIOD builds them from the store’s data, such as an upcoming event and how it sold last year, recent movers, overstock, best sellers about to run out, discounts that barely lift demand, and thin margins. Hover a suggestion to see why it was suggested. While AIOD looks for these, the card shows “Looking for questions in your data…”. If no store-specific suggestions are available, the default questions are:
  • Help me create a promo for Thanksgiving
  • Why were sales down last month?
  • What’s tying up cash in my stock?
  • Which products should I bundle together?
Click a suggestion, or type a question in the message box and click Send. Press Enter to send; Shift+Enter adds a new line. The message box placeholder is Help me create a promo for Thanksgiving before the first question and Refine it: keep margins above 25%, leave dairy out, fewer items… after it. Click New conversation at the top of the page to clear the conversation and start again.

Answers

While Promo Planner works, it lists each analysis as it runs, with “Working out what to look at…” before the first and “Writing up what I found…” at the end. Each answer can include:
  • A summary and a list of findings.
  • A strategy for the promotion.
  • How I got here, which expands to show the analyses Promo Planner ran.
  • Follow-up question buttons that name a specific product, category, code, or number from the answer. Only the newest answer shows them.
  • A promotion plan, when the merchant asked for one.

Promotion plan

A plan lists the products to discount. Each product row shows:
  • The product image, title, and category.
  • A role badge when relevant, such as Traffic driver or Clearance, and a short reason the product was picked.
  • The regular price (struck through), the promo price, and the discount percentage.
  • A tooltip with the projected units, and whether stock limits them.
The plan shows the first 8 products. Click N more items in this promotion to show the rest, and Show fewer to collapse the list. Below the products, three tiles show projections as a likely value with a range: A chart breaks the plan down by product category. A summary line shows the promotion dates, the discount depths used (for example 20% off ×12), and the projection confidence with notes. Projections are estimates from the store’s past sales, not guarantees.

Refine the plan

  • Click Remove on a product row to drop it from the plan. Removed products stay out of later answers in the same conversation.
  • Ask a follow-up, for example to keep margins above a level, leave a category out, or use fewer items.
Only the newest plan in the conversation can be edited and turned into a discount.

Review in editor

Under the newest plan, edit Discount name (defaults to the event name followed by promo) and click Review in editor. AIOD drafts one automatic Combined Multi Discounts discount from the plan and opens it in the discount editor:
  • One block per discount depth (Promo Planner uses 10%, 15%, 20%, and 30% off), each listing its products. Each product gets exactly one depth.
  • The promotion’s start and end dates, in the store’s time zone.
  • Online store and POS sales channels.
Nothing is saved until the merchant saves the discount in the editor. Review the products, dates, combinations, and status there, then save. Read Combined Multi Discounts for the editor’s settings. If the draft fails AIOD’s checks, Promo Planner shows: “The discount didn’t pass verification. Our team has been notified.”

Availability

Promo Planner appears in the AIOD Discount & Gift app navigation for every store. It needs Shopify Analytics access and sales history to build a plan.
